Nido Early School believes every child is capable, curious, and full of potential. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, their approach supports children from six weeks of age through to school age.
Nido Early School's evidence-based curriculum and diverse programs create daily opportunities for learning, from literacy and numeracy to cooking, art, music, languages, culture, and wellbeing.
Each day helps shape who children become, so Nido Early School invests in every child, every day. They nurture each child's sense of wonder, celebrate their voice, and ensure every child feels included and valued.
About Nido Early School Safety Bay
Nido Early School is opening an 82 licensed place early school in Safety Bay. Cleverly designed, the early school features curves, timber cladding and natural materials, alongside nautical-themed outdoor play yards with palm trees, beach cubbies and a beach combi van; a playful nod to its beautiful coastal location.
Executive Service Manager, Mel Hawkins, grew up just down the road, and her family has been part of the local community for generations. Mel's childhood memories of catching tadpoles, afternoons at the beach, and learning the value of connection help shape the warm, welcoming environment Nido Early School Safety Bay will offer every family.
Every Nido Early School is supported by qualified educators, alongside a Family Advocate, Curriculum Leader and Executive Service Manager who together focus on family needs, educational excellence and quality to deliver the highest standards of care and teaching every day.
Meet Safety Bay's Leadership Team
Executive Service Manager - Mel Hawkins
With nearly two decades in early childhood education, Mel Hawkins began her journey at just 15 and now holds a Diploma of Early Childhood Education. Her leadership is grounded in trust, presence and balance. Guided by the mantra,
"It'll still be there tomorrow," she encourages educators to slow down, stay present and prioritise wellbeing - knowing
"you can only fill a child's cup when your own is full."
A lifelong Safety Bay local, Mel's family has lived in the area for generations. As a mum of three, she understands the trust families place in the early school. Her experience, including advocating for a child with unique learning needs, has reinforced her belief that every child deserves to be understood and empowered. Drawing on Reggio-inspired approaches, she helps shape environments that honour each child's individuality and curiosity.
Mel's promise to families:
"I will treat every child as if they were one of my own. Your child will always be seen, heard and cared for with genuine warmth, respect and consistency."
Curriculum Leader - Corban Padgett
Passionate about inclusive education and meaningful learning, Corban Padgett began his career in high school, completing Certificates III and IV in Special Needs Education Support. He is now working towards a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary Teaching). Having worked as both a Special Needs Education Assistant and a Kindergarten Room Leader at Nido, Corban is committed to child-led inquiry and collaborative practice.
Supporting a butterfly life-cycle project was a defining moment for Corban; seeing children's excitement and engagement confirmed his love for the profession. Corban is eager to meet new families, build trusting relationships and create structured, supportive environments that prioritise children's wellbeing and learning outcomes.
Corban's promise to families:
"I'll always communicate openly, be approachable, and take the time to really get to know your child and your family."
Family Advocate - Dianne Alfonso
With more than five years' experience as a Family Advocate, Dianne Alfonso guides families through enquiries, enrolments and ongoing communication, helping them feel confident and clear about their early learning journey. She takes a family-centred approach, partnering with educators and leadership to build trust and strong relationships.
Dianne's promise to families:
"If a new family is feeling anxious, my promise is to listen and be there for them, without judgment, every step of the way."
